Suspended term for possession of knife ‘for own protection’

A 33-year-old man was given a suspended prison sentence last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for possession of an offensive weapon.

Marcell Junior Seeley, Dingwell Park, Lurgan, admitted the offence which happened on October 4 this year.

He was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for two years.

The court heard that police were dealing with two males in Dingwell Park and Seeley produced a knife.

He said it was for his own protection.

Imposing the suspended sentence District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry, said that knife crime here was nothing like it is on the mainland and if this had happened in England the defendant would be going straight to prison.
