A 47 year old man was banned from driving for 12 months last Friday for an excess alcohol offence.
Ivor Alan Lennon, Holly Hill, Dollingstown, was also fined £150 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
If he completes a course for drink driving the ban will be reduced by three months.
The court heard that Lennon was stopped by police at Dunkirk Road, Waringstown.
They smelled alcohol on his breath and an evidential test gave a reading of 65.
A barrister representing the defendant said he had been a teacher at Carrick Primary School for 26 years and was vice-principal.
She explained that her client had taken some cider at about 5pm. It was White Lightening and he did not realise it was so strong. At 9.30 in the evening he thought he would be fit to drive.
The barrister said Lennon was active within the community and was a coach with Lurgan Ladies Hockey Club.
