Took foolish decision to drive
after he hand drunk three pints

After taking a drink a 31-year-old man decided to go to get cigarettes but the manner of his driving attracted the attention of the police.

Charles Stewart, Granville Meadows, Portadown, was banned from driving for 12 months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was also fined £350 for driving with excess alcohol in breath on September 3 this year. The court heard that at 12.30am police saw a car being driven erratically in Portadown and mounting a kerb in Bridge Street. An evidential breath test gave a reading of 78.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had taken three pints of beer and had an hour’s sleep before making the foolish decision to go to a filling station to get cigarettes.
