David Thompson (41), Millbank View, Corbet, is charged with disorderly behaviour on an Ulsterbus travelling from Banbridge to Newry on September 5 last year and common assault on a woman.

A solicitor representing the defendant pleaded guilty to the offences on behalf of the defendant.

A public prosecutor started to outline the background of the offences.

He said that the injured party had been waiting for an Ulsterbus from Banbridge to Newry and the defendant, who was intoxicated, was there.

As she was getting on the bus he touched her on the shoulder from behind using the flat of his hand.

At this point in the case District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, asked for the defendant’s solicitor and the public prosecutor to approach the bench.

After a short discussion the judge adjourned the case until August 25.
