Two arrested after town centre incidents


Two men have been arrested after a number of incidents, including two assaults, in Portadown last night (Tuesday).

The incidents took place in the Meadow Lane, West Street and Thomas Street areas of the town.

Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey said police received a report of an assault in the Meadow Lane area just before midnight.

Between 2am and 3am, they received a further two reports of an assault and robbery in the West Street area as well as criminal damage to a property in Thomas Street.

He said, “Two men, aged 36 and 21, were subsequently arrested at a house in the Thomas Street area on suspicion of a number of offences including criminal damage, common assault and robbery. They remain in custody.

“Anyone with information about these incidents should contact police in Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 93 of 8/2/17. “Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
