The opening hours at Waves Leisure Complex is causing people to cancel their gym membership, it has been claimed.
DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart hit out at the opening hours of Waves saying that she has been trying to get earlier opening hours for over a year now with no success.
She said: “I have been approached by several people who have, in fact, cancelled their membership because the hours are not suitable to their work life and the changing society. I am aware that all other facilities in the new ABC area are open early morning to accommodate early morning swimmers and those using the gym facilities.
“In a changing society people no longer work 9am–5pm and therefore as a Council we need to be more adoptive to the changing needs.
“I requested a root and branch review of the opening hours across the new ABC Council area and am disappointed at the length of time it is taking to see any movement on this matter. I will again be pushing to get this matter resolved and have some degree of synchronisation across the entire area.
“Waves is on the edge of Lurgan park and we all know that the park is used from early morning to late at night.
“I believe whilst the swimming pool remains in the Lurgan area we should be doing more to tap into the park usage and offer more flexible hours particularly early mornings.”
Waves opens at 7.30am for early bird swims Monday to Friday.
