Woman jogger attacked and robbed of mobile phone

A 20-year-old woman was left shocked after she was attacked and robbed of her mobile phone while out jogging in the Meadow Lane area on Saturday night.

The young woman sustained a small head wound in the attack which took place around 9pm.

According to a family friend, the woman was “grabbed and pushed from behind” before her Blackberrry mobile phone was stolen.

She managed to catch a glimpse of the attacker as he fled in the direction of the town centre.

He is described as around 6ft tall and was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a hooded top and trainers.

The victim has warned other people to be careful.

T/Inspector Philip Quinn said, “I would appeal to anyone who was in the Meadow Lane area around the time of this incident who may have seen anyone matching this description, or anyone who has any information that could assist in the investigation, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1260 of 16th July.

“Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
