Jet2 has suspended flights to various destinations during the coronavirus pandemic, due to travel advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) continuing to change.

The travel company has now made the decision to suspend all flights and holidays to three destinations across Spain and Portugal until early 2021.

Jet2 will cease its flights to the Spanish destinations of Alicante and Malaga, as well as the Portuguese resort of Faro, until next year.

On Twitter, the travel operator said, “Due to the ongoing uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the latest government travel advice, we have taken the decision to extend the suspension of flights and holidays to Malaga, Alicante and Faro (The Algarve).”

Flights and holidays to Malaga and Alicante are now suspended up to and including 10 February 2021.

Flights and holidays to Faro are suspended from 1 November 2020, up to and including 10 February 2021, with the airline continuing to operate a revised flight-only programme up to and including 31 October 2021.

Customers who are due to travel to Faro up to and including 31 October 2020, but no longer wish to do so, are being offered the option to rebook with no admin fee.

Customers affected by the flight cancellations do not need to contact Jet2, as the company will be in touch.

The airline said, “We would also like to thank customers for their continued patience and understanding.”

What is the current travel advice for Spain and Portugal?

The FCDO is currently advising “against all non-essential travel” for both Spain and Portugal, “based on the current assessment of Covid-19 risks.”

Those already travelling in Spain are not being advised by the FCDO to leave at this time, but travellers should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect themselves and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus.

The Portuguese autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores are exempt from the FCDO advice against all non-essential international travel, again based on the current assessment of Covid-19 risks.
