Not for the first time this season Donaghcloney travelled for an away game on a Friday with an understrength team, but the game also marked a special landmark for Naomi Matthews who made her debut in senior league cricket.
In the end Donaghcloney suffered a 52 run defeat, thanks to the batting of Carrick’s South African professional, Louis Delport.
Batting first, Carrick were 58 for 3 wickets, thanks to two wickets for Matthew Lyttle and one for Tim McClure. This brought Delport to the wicket and he went on to make 109 after a difficult catch was put down before he had scored. Andrew Haggan and he took the score to 203 when Haggan fell to a fine catch by Mark Campbell off Mansing Nigade. The innings closed at 216 for 4 wickets.
In response Donaghcloney got off to a fine start with Mansing Nigade and Bruce Topping putting on 55 in 11 overs. Topping was caught and bowled for 33 and skipper Keith Martin joined Nigade in a stand of 60. Martin was then unluckily run out for 17, with the score on 115 for 2 wickets. With the score somewhat ‘behind the clock’, four wickets fell for 26 runs, including Nigade for 69. Matthew Lyttle (13 not out) and Lewis McNamara (11 not out ) added a quick 24 runs, to close on 164 for 6 wickets.
Congratulations to Naomi, she didn’t bat, but performed well in the field.
