Playing on the Lurgan green on rink one were Harry Cosgrove (skip), Ivor Mitchell, Declan McCabrey and Jack Duff against a Portadown 2 rink skipped by Sean McNeice. Cosgrove’s rink was always in command and dominated the whole game to gain a landslide victory by 30-6.
Eddie McCourt (skip), Billy Martin, Bobby Boness and Bobby Livingstone performed extremely well against an experienced Portadown rink skipped by Billy Pierson and having won the majority of the eighteen ends, which were mixed with four-shot and five-shot wins, they won 25-12.
At the same time Lurgan 2 team were away to Portadown 1.
On rink one for Lurgan 1 were Bobby Ruddell (skip), Bobby Jones, Charlie Maguire and Ronnie McCullough facing a seasoned Portadown 1 rink skipped by Robert Cassells. Alan Briggs’s rink, comprising Peter McGrail, Rodney McCarthy and Derek Henderson had better fortune against Noel Quinn’s rink. They started off well with a stunning five-shot win at the first end and while the home rink won some ends by single shots Briggs’s rink kept control and won 16-8.
