Bright start by Ballesteros

LURGAN BBOB displayed a decisive attacking display to claim the derby spoils over Craigavon City.

A burst of scoring inside 10 minutes, with the scoreline at 1-1, left BBOB in a commanding 6-1 advantage on the way to success by 8-3.

Richard Ferguson flicked on Efraim Ballesteros’ pass for Matthew Gordon to drill home the opening BBOB goal.

It was 1-1 approaching the half-hour mark when BBOB pushed on to regain control courtesy of Ferguson’s delightful free-kick finish.

Ballesteros - on his first start - then collected the ball from Ben Nelson and created space with a slick turn before smashing home the Old Boys’ third.

Derek Wilson’s penalty kick and a close-range finish by Ferguson after Ballesteros’ lob bounced off the bar further cemented the BBOB level of control.

The final goal of the first half arrived from Seth Mathers’ slick pass and a powerful drive by the impressive Ballesteros.

Gordon headed home a Nelson corner-kick ahead of City’s second goal.

BBOB pushed the tally to eight for the afternoon as Johnny Russell’s well-timed pass allowed Nelson to fire home from an angle.

The final goal proved in the favour of City but the overall plaudits went to BBOB.

“It was 1-1 then we pushed the self-destruct button to sit 6-1 down within the space of 10 minutes or so,” said Craigavon City’s Barry Cochrane. “Darragh McConville was excellent overall, with Ricky Harvey scoring two goals and Glenn France also on target.

“However, Lurgan BBOB certainly deserved the points and seemed to score every time they moved forward.

“From our viewpoint, we now need to bounce back as quickly as possible.”
