THE Celtic Club went into this week’s match knowing a point would be suffice for them to clinch the Division 3 title and in what was a keenly contested match they did themselves proud by winning the game 2-1.
Donaghmore struck first blood when after a mix up in defence the ball was played out wide to their winger who made no mistake and hammered it home. Donaghmore still had league ambitions of their own but would have had to beat the Celtic Club twice. This team had until Saturday played 19 games and won 19 games so Donaghmore should have known the day was far from over. Just before half-time Donaghmore hit the post in what would surely have changed the match but having missed the opportunity the Celtic Club struck when Ciaran Seeley charged down a thunderbolt for the ball to be played quickly out the ever alert Celtic winger who lost the defender with pace and calmly picked his spot to leave the match 1-1 at half time.
The Celtic Club were playing against a very strong wind in the second half and once they got going they simply upped their game and played some lovely football which resulted in Chris Rice being played in behind the defence and when he raced in on goal he picked his spot and sent a curling effort into the top left hand side of the keepers goal. The Celtic Club will now appear in the Beckett Cup final on Friday night at Knockramer Park (6.45pm).
Anyone wishing to attend would need to take note there will be separate turnstiles. There will be no alcohol served nor allowed into the ground. The Celtic Club supporters will enter the ground from the Francis St direction. All supporters are asked to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner at all times as both clubs have a terrific relationship.
