McCandless the main man

ANDREW McCandless’ second-half strike provided Portadown BBOB with full points on Saturday.

The right-back pushed forward and took advantage of the time and space provided by the Glenavy backline to fire home a long-range goal.

It handed the Old Boys the upper hand for the final time last weekend.

Aaron Thornbury looked sharp early on for BBOB, with Jeff McCann alert to protect his cleansheet.

Early chances arrived for BBOB after the break but Matt Donaldson steered his shot wide before Willie Donaldson forced the Glenavy goalkeeper into a fine acrobatic stop.

McCandless provided an assist on 70 minutes when his corner-kick was converted by Donaldson’s header.

McCann produced one smart stop before Glenavy grabbed an equaliser.

However, the match featured a late twist when McCandless turned provider to scorer, in spectacular fashion.

PORTADOWN BBOB: Jeff McCann, Andrew McCandless, Alistair Quinn, Neil Taylor, Scott McClatchey, Aaron Thornbury, William Donaldson, Sam Thornbury, Gareth McCombe, Matt Donaldson, John Henderson. Subs: Mark Thornbury, Jordan Brown, Stephen Wright.

PORTADOWN BBOB defeated Markethill Swifts by 4-2 at home in Mid-Ulster Reserve League Division Two.
