Sarsfields have the unique distinction of being the first Armagh Senior Club to see action this season as they defeated Brian Og’s GFC Steelstown 3-07 to 0-13.
Two opening scores from Mark Foley to put the Og’s two points ahead, soon to be returned from two equalising points from Sarsfields’ Thomas McAlinden.
Goals from Paul McGaughey and Niall Kerr along with points from the Og’s Conan Doherty and Neil Forrester sent both teams into half time with Sarsfields leading 2-2 to 0-6 points. The second half was opened by an impressive long range point from substitute Paul McGeown and another two points from Thomas McAlinden.
The Og’s responded well in the second half with scores from Neil Forrester and Eoghan Heraghty though with five minutes remaining, a pass from Johnny Reynolds ensured Paul McGaughey sent another ball into the net to give Sarsfields a comfortable lead throughout. A promising first performance from Sarsfields goalkeeperTyler Crawford maintaining a clean sheet.
