Sean Treacy’s 1-05 St Fechin’s 1-18

SEAN Treacy’s have already qualified for the Tain League semi-final so the result of this game was of no real consequence.

Robbed of six regulars Treacy’s were always going to be up against it, however this game was an opportunity for coach Declan Maher to have a look at his panel. Unfortunately St Fechin’s were just the better team on the day and the scoreline reflects that reality.

The visitors totally dominated at centre field and in the half back and half forward lines and their dominance meant a long afternoon at the office for Treacy’s defence and a shortage of supply to the forward line. The highlight of the day was provided by Declan himself when having come on at half time he scored a magnificent goal, winning the ball and cutting through the visitors defence with ease. Pick of the home side on the day was Barry McDonald in the full back line, he worked hard and cleared a lot of ball while Breandan Colman was as industrious as always. Declan Maher also showed up well when he came on.

Next up for Treacy’s are Eoghan Rua of Coleraine in the semi-final. The Coleraine men are going well, the backbone of their team are the four McGoldrick brothers who have played for Derry in both football and hurling. This will be a tough task for Treacy’s but with the Carville brothers, Odhran McCann, Raymond Daly and Paul Hand all set for an immediate return, the Lurgan men will be confident of victory.
