JUST two Clann Eireann cyclists, Conor Grimes and Michael Murray Junior, were included in a large field at last Sunday’s mountain bike race in Lurgan Park.
But at the end it was Grimes first to cross the line in what was his first ever victory in an off road event.
Conor took the lead at an early stage of the race and had more than a minute to spare over his nearest rival as he crossed the finish line.
The only other rider in racing at the weekend, Declan Mulholland, took part with an Ulster team in the British inter-regional mountain bike finals on the Olympic MTB course near London. There was no news on how they fared at the time of writing.
Club runs continue to leave the Clann Eireann club on Saturdays and Sundays at 9.30am and before last Saturday’s run the club made a presentation of a cheque to the PIPS Charity. The amount was £2500. The club wishes to thank all the participants and contributors, particularly the Classic Mineral water Company, Golden Crust Bakery and Ronnie McCabrey Cycles.
This weekend a group of the clubs youth members travel to Tullymore for an outing with Cycling Ulsters Off Road Commission, but the normal club runs will continue as normal. New members are welcome.
