Lurgan’s successful young bowler, Kristofor Matchett played well throughout the Belmont Plate Singles Tournament and reached the final last Sunday afternoon. He had a super game and convincingly beat Whitehead bowler, Philip Weir 21–10. The first half was tightly fought with both players trading ends with score being all square at 8–8 at the midpoint. Having taken the lead by a shot on the 11th end, Kristofor took control of the match and sealed his memorable victory by collecting two excellent 4-shot wins during the remaining ends.
It was has been a busy fortnight for Kristofor and his Lurgan friend, Reece Millar who both played in the Bangor Open Tournament over the two previous weeks and over last Friday and Saturday for the NIBA in Annual Junior Inter-Association Series. Both young bowlers played exceptionally well and gave a good account of themselves throughout.
The Irish selectors were present during the matches against the other Associations with U25 Irish International places up for grabs. Kristofor’s bowling colleagues at his Lurgan club wish to congratulate Kristofor on being selected and gaining his first International cap for Ireland.
