Lisnagarvey 82 (5)
Lurgan 77 (2)
Lurgan Bowling Club Senior team travelled to Lisnagarvey on Saturday and despite starting slowly they fought back hard and put themselves in a winning position only to allow the home team to take the win.
Garvey got off to a good start and built up a 21-10 lead after five ends and still looked comfortable at the halfway point leading 42-33. Lurgan showed some great fighting spirit and rallied to take the lead 60-51 at the three quarter distance, and still held the lead 77-72 going into the final end; however a poor finish saw Garvey outscore Lurgan by 10 shots in the final end to win 82-77. Lurgan remain in the relegation zone and will need help from other teams to stay in the first division.
On Rink 1 Ivor Mitchell, Richard McClune, Kris Matchett and skip Harry Cosgrove, took a few ends to settle on the Garvey green against skip N Mulholland allowing them to build a 10-1 lead after five ends the Lurgan rink clawed their way back and trailed by a solitary shot 13-12 at the half. This rink always remained tight though the Garvey rink always had a small margin as they led 18-14 after fifteen ends and won 26-20.
On Rink 2 Bobby Boness, Reece Millar, Pete McGrail and skip Alan Briggs, played out a tight low scoring game. They led 5-2 after five ends and 8-4 after ten, this rink was always in the balance and Lurgan stretched their lead to 13-6 at the three quarter distance and always found a way to keep the Garvey rink at arms length winning 15-10.
On Rink 3 Gareth Bunting, Davy Millar, Stephen Poots and skip Alan Roberts, traded the opening ends with Garvey skip P Cromie leading 4-3 after five ends, the Garvey rink exerted some pressure on the Lurgan four and built a 13-7 lead at the mid point of the game. Over the next five ends the Lurgan rink fought back and restricted the Garvey rink to a single shot while scoring 13 to lead 20-14, which would be the gap at the end as Lurgan won 27-21.
On Rink 4 Ronnie McCullough, Jeffrey McCullough, Bobby Ruddell & Skip Mansell Montgomery, didn’t score in the opening five ends as the Garvey rink skipped by K Morrision led 6-0, the Lurgan four including senior team debutant J McCullough fought back and at three quarter distance were level at 13-13. However a disappointing finish saw the Lurgan rink outscored heavily falling to a 25-15 defeat.
