The Wednesday Sweep saw a huge entry of 141 but only seven golfers posted under par scores of 57 points or better.
The top score belonged to Paul McConaghy. This 11 handicapper triumphed with his total of 41 points. Paul’s day began with an opening birdie and it was followed by useful pars at holes three, four and six. At halfway mark he was in a comfortable position. A run of birdie, par, par set the tone for the back nine. Pars at holes fourteen and fifteen provided the fillip in the middle of the nine. He rounded off his day with back to back pars to secure victory.
After his successful Captain’s Day Sean Wilson took second spot with 40 points. Terry Eagers captured the third net prize with his tally of 38 points.
Roy Hanna Jnr returned 37 points to nab fourth place. The fifth and final net prize went to Winston Hutchison with 37 points. Five handicapper Daniel Wright registered a commendable net score of 40 points. This provided him with a gross effort of 35 points and this category award.
The winner of the McGeagh Cup was Betty McKavanagh with a net 69. The gross score went to Niamh Ward with a 79. Just beaten on the back nine was Sheena McStay who also had a 69 and won section one. Section 2 was a tightly contested affair with three players having a net 76 namely Pat Hughes, Bernadette Laverty and Debbie McCollum. Pat came out on top on the count back.
Section 3 went to committee member Pat Carville with a net 71. Just beaten by a shot in section 3 were last week’s winner Eithne McAtavey and Maeve McKavanagh, who was playing in only her second competition.
The winner of the 9-hole competition was Eileen Faulkner.
