Lurgan Golf Club have won the Carlngford Cup after defeating Dundalk Golf Club in the final.
The final began with singles going first followed by foursomes.
Jim McKee was first out and he gained four points for Lurgan. Next was Mark Headley who has been very consistent throughout the competition and he gained another two points.
Nicholas Campbell was third on the tee box and although he went three down early on he fought back brilliantly to win the match gaining another three valuable points.
Fourth up was Stephen Loughran who came up against a real hustler of an opponent who just wouldn’t let up and after a hard fought match Stephen was narrowly defeated.
First pairings of Garfield Bell and Steven Mulvena also came up against stiff opposition and battled right to the end and with Garfield’s craft and Steven’s youthful energy they never gave up and were rewarded with two points.
The final pairing of Dwaine Hanna and Dermot Lavery was absolutely critical to the outcome of the match. As they did at Lurgan they delivered another jewel of a performance gaining six points after defeating a pairing that had not been beaten throughout the competition.
They were never down in their match and closed it after leaving the 16th where they were four up and as the required team points had been achieved they were called in gaining six points .
Team Captain’s Colin Robb and Nigel Girvan are delighted and very proud of the team performance in bringing home the cup.
They would like to thank everyone who turned out to support the team throughout the competition.
Well done lads from everyone at Lurgan Golf Club, fantastic achievement.
