Lurgan Bowling Club Senior team got a much needed win against fellow strugglers Dromore at Lurgan Park on Wednesday 19th June, they lead 27-16 after 5 ends and 40-35 at the mid-way stage. At three quarter distance the score line read 58- 48, and the seniors didn’t let this lead slip extending their lead in the final stages winning 87-64
On Rink 1 Gareth Bunting, Davy Millar, Stephen Poots and skip Alan Roberts started well leading 6-3 after 5 ends, the rink lost focus in the middle of the game as the lead went back and forth as Dromore skipped by J McKenny lead 9-8 at the mid stage, by three quarter distance Lurgan were back in the lead 16-13 and continued to increase the lead throughout the final stages as they gained a much needed league point 27-18.
On Rink 2 Melvyn Hamilton, Declan McCabrey, Bobby Ruddell and skip Mansell Montgomery, started off on the front foot against Dromore rink skipped by A Johnston, only leading 8-4 after 5 ends. Dromore fought back and reduced the deficit to a single shot 11-10 at halftime. In a tight game the Lurgan four showed some great teamwork to keep their lead 15-12 and increasing the winning margin in the final few ends winning 20-14
On rink 3 for Lurgan, Bobby Boness, Ronie McCullough, Pete McGrail and skip Alan Briggs new they were in for a tight game against a Dromore rink skipped by S G Malcomson, with only 29 shots being scored in the full 21 ends as they were level after 5 and still level half way through 7-7, the Dromore rink took the lead in the final third 12-8 and with Briggs holding the shot in the final end to win the rink Dromore skip played a running shot and with a cruel twist of fate the jack would roll to the ditch with 3 shots for Dromore for Dromore’s single point of the game 16-13.
On Rink 4 Ivor Mitchell, Richard McClune, Kris Matchett and skip Harry Cosgrove led from the start to finish to end up 27-16.
