Nostalgia: Nurse on mercy mission to Ethiopia

Twenty-three-year-old Pamela Mackle, a newly qualified midwife, was going to treat pregnant women in the African country.

She said: “I have always wanted to do relief work. The situation is really terrible.”

She was going to work with three or four other colleagues in a refugee camp where the only contact with the outside world will be the passing food trucks.

Pamela is pictured receiving a cheque for the Ethiopian Appeal Fund from Lismore pupils Karen Kane. The money was raised by an all night vigil.
