JUSTIN Bieber and One Direction songs ‘as gaeilge’ - the pupils of Irish Medium school Bunscoil Naomh Proinsias in Lurgan have scored huge hits with these pop sensations’ translated songs.

And the Irish Medium Unit of St Francis’ Primary School have qualified for the All Ireland Finals for their drama ‘Luaithríona’ which is a modern day interpretation of the story of Cinderella told through acting, song and dance.

The unit comprises 138 pupils from Rang 1(P1) to Rang 7(P7) and has carved out a reputation for excellence in drama over recent years with their pupils consistently among prize winners at local festivals in various events.

The pupils wrote the drama themselves along with their teacher and drama co-ordinator Miss Laverty and teaching assisant Mrs O’Loan.

They have shown real creativity in choreography and in composing lyrics for their show tunes - which are all very up-to-date and include reworked versions of One Direction and Justin Bieber hits!

They competed at local level in Féile Scoildrámaíochta an Iúir (Newry Arts Festival), where they were awarded prizes for best choreography and best actress.

They then progressed through to the provincial heats in Letterkenny, where they again dazzled and qualified to compete at national level in the All-Ireland Féis.

The pupils staged a showcase performance of their drama for the school, parents and the local community.

In the audience was the Minister for Education, John O’Dowd, whose children attend the unit Bunscoil Naomh Proinsias.
