The court heard that police went to the Gate Inn after a report of a male jumping in the water. They saw McCann who appeared to be intoxicated and he began shouting and swearing.

He shouted ‘up the Ra’ and told police to ‘f—k off’ before going on to use other expletives.

A solicitor representing McCann said he was a persistent offender who regularly attended at court. He added that his client was currently serving a sentence with a release date in January next year.

The District Judge imposed a conditional discharge for two years.
