Local man freed on drug charges

Malachy Doran, aged 52, from Church Walk faced two charges of possessing more than 100,000 euros worth of drugs and selling or supplying the same drugs.

Doran had been arrested in Bundoran, Co Donegal with another local man, his co-accused Paul McConville (55) from Cranny Terrace near Bleary on November 21 last year.

The pair appeared soon after at Sligo District Court following the massive drugs find.

They were charged under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Ballyshannon area of Co Donegal, local Gardaí accompanied by members of Revenue Customs Services and Garda Regional Support Unit siezed a quantity of Methylone at a house in Bundoran.

Both men were taken into custody and taken to Castlerea Prison.

It had been reported that the drugs (subject to analysis) had an estimated street value of €115,000.

A vehicle and mobile phones were also seized during the operation.

Meanwhile last Friday Paul McConville appeared at Ballyshannon District Court last Friday facing a charge of the unlawful possession of a controlled drug namely methylone on November 21 2013 at an address in Bundoran, Co Donegal.

He is also charged that on the same date he was in possession of the same drug for the purposes of selling or supplying to others.

McConville had previously been given bail at a prior court hearing and was remanded on continuing bail to appear at Ballyshannon District Court on March 7.

Mr Doran had remained in custody in Castlerea, Roscommon and appeared at Harristown District Court attached to the jail last Friday where all charges against him were ‘struck out’.
