Unionist call for new play park in village

Ulster Unionists Colin McCusker and Marc Woods have called for a new play park to meet the growing amount of young families now living in the village.

They say the village has grown substantially over the last 15 years, with many new private housing developments filling up with first time buyers and young families.

Marc Woods, who is a candidate for the UUP in the Lagan River ward at this year’s Council elections, said: “It is very clear to me that the play provision for children in Waringstown is far from adequate.

“I have been contacted by many young families who feel that a village the size of Waringstown should locate a new play park at a more convenient location close to local shops and services.

“This will be an issue that the new super council will have to address, if Craigavon Borough Council runs out of time, and I will be an active advocate for the people 
of Waringstown.

Councillor Colin McCusker said: “Craigavon Council is currently carrying out a strategic review of play park provision right across the borough.

“I am contacted on a regular basis by parents of young families who are frustrated by the locations and standard of play parks in their local areas.

“There is no doubt that Waringstown is the elephant in the room, and I believe serious consideration should be given to locating a new play park at the vacant site on the Banbridge Road adjacent to the Village Centre, where three very popular business enjoy the support of the local community.”
