Sykes switch can be winner says boss

Glenavon’s promising young midfielder Mark Sykes has been tipped to shine in a new role by manager Gary Hamilton.

The teenager slotted into the right side of midfield in the cup tie at Moyola last Saturday and did so well Hamilton believes it is a position he can work on to become a better player.

“I want to get Mark more involved in playing in the wide
areas,” says Hamilton.

“I feel at 17 years of age centre midfield in the Irish League is a big ask to break into and hold a playing position every week.

“Mark has got pace, he likes to run at players and playing wide he is more dangerous rather than getting stuck in the hustle and bustle of midfield. I think he can really make an impact playing wide over the next six months to a year.”

Hamilton has pretty much a full squad to choose from for the trip to Coleraine on Saturday.

“They are our nearest challengers for sixth spot at this minute in time so it’s important we get something out of the game.

“We will go there looking
for the three points but it will not be easy based on the last two meetings which we lost,”
said Hamilton. “We don’t want them to gain any ground
on us so we will have to play
at our best if we are to get
a result.

“They have been the better team in both games so it’s about time we produced a winning performance against them like we did last season.”
