Call for participants to take part in ‘Viking’ boat race

Craigavon Borough Council is calling for all local ‘Vikings’ to take to the water for the upcoming Viking Day as part of the Portadown 400 celebrations.

The event will be held on the River Bann on Saturday 22nd June in conjunction with Ardglass Viking Association.

The fun starts at 10am to 4pm with rowing and sailing sessions for families, authentic Viking Village history talks, warrior weapon training, and mock battles for children.

The Viking Boat Races will commence at 12noon and will be compered by a DJ. Throughout the day there will also be a mini food village and interactive workshops with Millennium Court Arts Centre and Children’s Entertainment.

The event will also be complemented by ‘Come and Try’ sporting sessions at Meadows Shopping Centre, Portadown.

To compete in the Viking Boat Race you will need to register a team of 10 people to represent a community organisation,business, sports club etc.

A fee of £20 per boat will be applied with all monies being donated to council’s nominated charity - Craigavon Heart Town. There will be prizes for the winning, runner-up and best dressed teams. Competitors must be aged 14 or over.
