‘Come and Play’ with orchestra

That was the call last week to young and old with a dream to play with the Ulster Orchestra.

They can realise their ambition at the Ulster Orchestra’s ‘Come and Play’ day on 20th March 2016.

But applications must be in by Wednesday, January 20 2016.

Making the call, Lucy McCullagh, Director of Learning and Community Engagement for the Orchestra, says the Ulster Hall will provide the stunning venue for family and friends to attend a free performance.

Those taking part will have to attend rehearsals from 2.30 to 5pm on Sunday 20th March 2016.

She said: “The ‘Come and Play’ experience is open to players of all ages who have achieved Grade 4 standard or above in their chosen instrument.

Places are allocated on a first come first served basis for an event which has a history of being over-subscribed.

“This is the 50th anniversary year of the Ulster Orchestra and we are determined to make sure that more people than ever have the opportunity to meet with our players and be inspired by every element of classical music either as a future career or simply as a pleasurable experience.”

The Ulster Orchestra’s Schools Programme reaches more than 8000 young people, while the Move to the Music initiative brings 800 senior citizens from rural areas to the Orchestra.

Regional concerts also enable the Orchestra to actively engage with and bring classical music to 2,500 people in towns across Northern Ireland.
