McAlinden has high hopes for progress at Kiln Lane

The new lights have led to an explosion in the number of vehicles using the formerly quiet country road, with residents voicing their concerns.

Local SDLP Councillor McAlinden has met with Transport NI and reiterated the need for action on the issue.

“After meeting officials from Transport NI last week, they have agreed to meet with residents and myself on site within the next few weeks to come to a satisfactory outcome in relation to the volumes of traffic on this stretch of road,” said Mr 
McAlinden.

“It has got extremely busy since the traffic lights were installed and residents are very frustrated that no action has been taken to ease this problem.”

Meanwhile, he praised Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council after they confirmed plans to install a bus shelter in Derrymacash.

“The residents will be delighted to have a new bus shelter, especially now when the winter months are almost upon us, and school children and elderly residents who use the bus stop on a daily basis will have some shelter from the elements. I have also requested bus shelters in other parts of Derrymacash and 
Craigavon.”

A TransportNI spokesperson said: “TransportNI introduced traffic signals at the Kiln Road/Silverwood Road junction to improve road safety, pedestrian facilities and aid traffic management.

“Regrettably some drivers avoid these lights and use Kiln Lane.

“TransportNI is currently considering how best to resolve the issue.”
