Traditional gig at the Oakleaf

THE Oakleaf Restaurant plays host to traditional band Ioscaid on Friday.

Ioscaid is a five-piece band, formed in late 2009 to compete in ‘Siansa Gael Linn’, a national competition for young traditional Irish bands. Ioscaid soon made a name for themselves winning the prestigious competition in April 2010 in front of a sell-out crowd of 2500 in the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

Their enthusiasm for success, combined talents and great musicianship has formed them into an excellent young group who have played at music festivals all over Ireland and globally as well as performances on TV and Radio both home and abroad.

Ioscaid have created a fresh new sound for the Irish Music scene. With a mix of traditional and newly comoosed melodies on Button Accordion (Declan Magee), Fiddle (Niall Murphy) and Flute/Whistles (Fintan Mulholland) alongside highly rhythmical accompaniment from Niall McCrickard on Guitar and Dermot Mulholland (Vocals) on Bouzouki and Double Bass, Ioscaid are guaranteed to have an audience on their feet!

The band has most recently won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and is currently in the studio recording an EP to be released Summer 2012! Local group Fuinneamh will be the supporting act on the night at the Oakleaf, Glenshane Road, Maghera. Tickets are £5.00.
