UKCoC13 to bid for Irish culture titie
“I understand that Derry City Council, together with citywide stakeholders, will formally bid for the title of Irish City of Culture,” she stated, in response to a Question tabled by UKIP MLA David McNarry.
She said she had not received a formal application for funding but that she would encourage all cities to consider applying for the title.

Hide AdMs Ní Chuilín acknowledged Londonderry’s “significant socio-economic problems, with quality of life in the City at a lower level than Belfast and significantly below the best performing European Cities.”
She stated: “Therefore, I am keen that the City pursues all opportunities which can improve quality of life for those most in need.”
According to Derry City Council’s Legacy Plan - details of which were first published here in October - serious consideration will also be given to a bid for European Capital of Culture in 2023.
