Call to prioritise breast cancer services

There been a call for greater priority to be given to the return on treatment and screening for breast cancer.

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has joined MPs from across the UK as part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Breast Cancer, which has made the call.

Speaking after a meeting of the group, Ms Lockhart said: “One in seven women across the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and sadly around 1,000 women die from this illness every month in the United Kingdom.

“Like all cancers, early diagnosis and access to treatment is vital to prognosis... Due to COVID, this vital service was suspended, leaving thousands of women without this service. It cannot be understated how vital it is that screening is ramped up to ensure these women are seen.”
