Father and daughterexhibition

Antrim Borough Council is delighted to host an exhibition of work by renowned painter Brian Ballard, who will be displaying new work alongside that of his daughter Lisa Ballard.

Their work will be on display at the Oriel Gallery, Clotworthy House from now until June 27.

Brian studied at the College of Art, Belfast and at the College of Art, Liverpool.

While he has spent most of his career in Belfast he also spends long periods of time living and working on the remote and rugged island of Inishfree, off the coast of Donegal.

A painter of the moment, capturing light and form with confidence and spontaneity, each composition bears the instantly recognisable stamp of Ballard.

His paintings hang in prestigious collections throughout Europe, including the Ulster Museum, the National Trust and the Ulster Television Collection.

His daughter Lisa is also influenced by the landscape and the light, particularly at twilight and dawn. She creates her pieces with oil paints on canvas, using washes, scratching and painterly brush strokes to create the image.

Brian and his daughter often travel and paint together in the landscape, most recently at the Minnowburn River in Belfast and in Donegal.

Their last joint exhibition was in the Barbara Stanley Gallery in London.

Cathy Brown, Arts Officer with Antrim Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to have work of this stature on show in the Oriel Gallery. It shows our continuing dedication to bringing the highest calibre of art to Antrim.”
