200 raise £11.5k in memory of the late Catherine McCloskey

THE co-workers of the late Catherine McCloskey who passed away from an unforeseen respiratory illness last year have raised £11.5k for the Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke charity.

Catherine’s brother, Dermot McCloskey, who was one of 200 took part in a sponsored walk to raise the money, said: “The whole family are so touched that Catherine’s colleagues have paid tribute to her by raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

“And with over £11,500 raised I can’t think of a more fitting memorial to her as we approach the first anniversary of her passing.”

The huge donation was raised as a result of a sponsored walk completed by staff at the Open & Direct insurance company in October in memory of their late colleague, who passed away a year ago this week.

Staff from the Londonderry branch were joined by co-workers from across Northern Ireland and members of Catherine’s family and friends, making for over 200 walkers in her memory on Sunday, October 7.

Louise Dillon, branch manager said: “We’re delighted to have had such a fantastic turnout for the walk in Catherine’s memory and by the generosity of all the people who worked with and knew Catherine during the 25 years she worked for Open + Direct.

“With a final figure of £11,508.76 we’re so proud of all of our staff and deeply touched by the special effort made by all Catherine’s family and friends for this fantastic cause.”

Brian McCluskey, North West Fundraiser for NI Chest, Heart and Stroke said: “Catherine was a very special woman and this is obvious from the effort and commitment shown by her colleagues, family and friends.

“The walk in her memory was one of the largest walks we’ve ever organised and the amazing amount of money raised will make a huge difference to the lives of people in Northern Ireland.”
