Allowed friend to drive car but there was no valid insurance
When he bought a car for £300 a 20-year-old man allowed a friend to drive it even though it was not insured.
And last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court he was convicted of permitting someone to drive without having insurance.
Dean Martin, Tandragee Road, Portadown, was fined £250 for the offence, given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that Martin was a passenger in a car stopped by police on the Dungannon Road, Portadown, on January 16 this year.
Inquiries revealed there was no valid insurance for the vehicle.
Mr Joe McDonald, representing the defendant, said the vehicle had just been purchased by Martin for £300.
He added that his client thought his friend had a licence and asked him to drive the car back to his home.
