Almost 8,000 crimes last year

SUBVERSIVES were responsible for just over one hundred crimes committed in Londonderry in 2009, it has emerged.

Paedophiles, rapists and flashers were responsible for 167 reported crimes in the city over the same period.

But the vast majority of criminals were booked for activities such as criminal damage (2,136) and offences against the person (2,552).

The PSNI released the details relating to recorded crime in the Londonderry area in response to a recent Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

The data show that there was a grand total of 7,727 reported crimes in 2009 in the city.

These included burglary (601), criminal damage (2,136), fraud and forgery (123), offences against the person (2,552), offences against the state (101), other notifiable offences (357), robbery (73), sexual offences (167) and theft (1,617).
