The MLA said: “I welcome the publication of the plans which show an innovative, modern, state of the art designed facility which will be a marvellous environment for the workforce.

“I also welcome the fact that 1,500 staff enquiries ensured that the requests for transfer was greatly oversubscribed, ensuring some staff from the North West will have the opportunity to work much closer to home.

“Since I first suggested Ballykelly as the ideal site for the DARD HQ I have been totally supported by my DUP East Londonderry colleagues, so to see the project becoming a reality is heartening.

“I have firmly believed from the very start that this Executive funded move to Ballykelly by DARD, which is the anchor tenant on the site, will be a cornerstone for the site in general and the economic regeneration of the area in particular.

“It is also positive that local businesses have welcomed the plans and see the truly positive investment the DARD move is. With this further development I hope the few sceptics will put their negativity to one side and join the rest of in portraying the Ballykelly site as the ideal investment opportunity it truly is. This is the best way to ensure fulfilling the potential of the site to its entirety for the benefit of the community.”
