Councillor Duddy rolled up his trousers and went barefoot at Portstewart Strand to support the organisers of the Christmas Day charity event.

Every year dozens of intrepid swimmers take to the icy waters at the Strand to raise money for the Northern Ireland Hospice.

Many wear Santa outfits or fancy dress and are cheered on by family and friends on the beach.

Organisers are expecting a record attendance at Coleraine Hospice Support Group’s Christmas swim.

So are you brave enough to sign up?

Last year proved to be very successful, with more than £1500 raised.

The Christmas spirit was in abundance with hundreds crowding on to the Strand, creating a very festive mood.

There are several sea swims over the festive season, but the organisers believe that this one is the oldest to be held on Christmas day and possibly the largest of all festive swims in the local area.

The fun event is now in its 32nd year!

If you would like to take part, sponsor forms are available from the Hospice shops in Coleraine and Ballymoney or by calling John Phillips on 07773367287 or Ailna Smyth on 028 70832735.

Monies collected will help support the Hospice’s homecare nursing team in this area for adults and children.
