NORTHERN Ireland Water (NIW) will use CCTV to examine the sewerage network in the Slievemore Park area of Londonderry for blockages and determine whether repairs are needed.

Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy advised NIW was not aware of any problems with the local sewerage network until informed by local residents.

Asked by SDLP MLA Pól Callaghan for his assessment of the capacity of water and sewerage infrastructure at Slievemore Park he replied: “I have been advised by NIW that it is not aware of any significant problems with the water mains infrastructure within the Slievemore Park housing development.

“There are no records of burst mains in the area and a Mains Zonal Study carried out in the city did not identify any hydraulic or water quality issues. There are no capacity issues in this area and consequently no upgrades of the water main infrastructure are planned.

“In response to a number of recent complaints from customers ...NIW plans to carry out a CCTV survey of the local network to determine the source of the blockages and whether any repairs are needed to the fabric of the sewers.
