Call for action on Tullygarley ‘eyesore’ site

The site has lain vacant for around a decade since the Texaco station there was demolished.

Residents say that weeds at the site, which is owned by Wilsons of Rathkenny, are now “the size of trees.”

Chairman of Tullygarley Community Association Rusty Johnston told the Times: “The weeds are an eyesore, they haven’t been sprayed and some are like trees at five feet tall! There are residents living opposite and we are calling on Wilsons to clean up the site. It pulls the area down, going out the Glynn Road it’s the first thing people see,” he concluded.

Alderman Gregg McKeen said he had discussed how to improve the site with the council’s Environmental Services department.

“It’s really poor and needs tidied up, people have to live there and see it at their front doors,” he added. ap“I will continue to have discussions in the coming weeks until I am satisfied this matter will be resolved for local residents.”

A council spokesman stated: “MEA Borough Council officers are aware of the concerns of local residents in respect of the Glynn Road site in Larne. Whilst enforcement powers are limited we will engage further with the site owner to seek an improvement.”

Site owner John Wilson said: “We have had no communications from anyone regarding the condition of this site, if the residents’ committee has issues they are welcome to contact us to discuss them, at some stage in the future the site will be redeveloped.”
