Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area on Sunday afternoon and who may have noticed anyone or anything suspicious. The number to call is 0845 600 8000.

Officers are also keen to remind motorists to keep valuables out of sight of any would-be thieves.

Theft tends to be an opportunistic crime and with thieves - if they see it, they will try to take it.

Police would like to remind the public of their Church Watch a crime prevention information and advice scheme.

Community Safety Inspector Colin Audley said, “The Police Service of Northern Ireland in D District has set up this Community Safety initiative in partnership with our churches in response to crimes against places of worship such as metal and lead thefts. Our aim is to get vital crime reduction messages on burglary and scams advice to name but a few into the heart of our churches for them to pass onto their congregations to help make our communities a safer place. Churches and church leaders have an important role to play and this initiative provides that platform.”
