Celebrating Salvation Army's 130th anniversary

MEMBERS of Lurgan Salvation Army were among hundreds of members and friends from Salvation Army churches and centres across Ireland, who recently gathered for an uplifting and challenging Congress Celebration of praise, worship and fellowship.

This year marks the 130th anniversary of The Salvation Army’s arrival in Belfast beginning the work and witness of the church and charity within the Ireland Division.

Those attending were challenged not only to glance back at the past work and achievements of The Salvation Army, but to keep moving forward, realising God’s vision to fulfil His work for the future of the church and charity, in local communities.

Congress offered something for everyone. Young people enjoyed a pizza and fellowship night, Kids@Congress enjoyed games and craft activities, men of The Salvation Army enjoyed a breakfast, older members enjoyed a Monday afternoon rally, while the local community visited Belfast Citadel - the first Salvation Army church to be established - and enjoyed an interactive Discovery Day.

The Saturday evening celebration included a drama highlighting aspects of The Salvation Army’s 130 year history while Sunday meetings were challenging and uplifting encouraging all ages to march forward and embrace God’s vision for the future work of The Salvation Army.
