Charity volunteer to open Asda

WITH just days to go until its new 24,000 sq ft store opens in Larne, Asda has confirmed that local charity worker Eleanor Greenlee, has been nominated as the store's local hero.

Eleanor will help perform the official opening duties on Monday, June 7, arriving at the store in celebrity fashion in a stretch limousine.

Eleanor received numerous votes in the Asda competition, organised in conjunction with the Larne Times, to undertake the prestigious role.

Having founded Larne's Marie Curie Cancer Care support group over 10 years ago, Eleanor has worked tirelessly with the group - raising over 250,000 for the charity.

General store manager Geoff Murphy said: "We are delighted to name Eleanor as Asda Larne's local hero. She is admired by customers and colleagues alike for dedicating so much time to this important charity and is regarded by the local community as a real inspiration, so it is very fitting that she plays a central role in the opening of our new store next week."

Adding that the new Larne store was set to open on schedule at 10am on Monday morning, Geoff said: "We are really looking forward to welcoming shoppers into our new store.

"The anticipation is really mounting now among shoppers from Larne and beyond, particularly with regard to the full George clothing and home-wares ranges the new store will offer."

With music, balloon modellers and checkout bingo on offer, the opening of Asda in Larne is guaranteed to be a great day out for shoppers of all ages.
