Closing date looms for writing competition

TO help celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Lurgan the 'MAIL' has teamed up with Craigavon Borough Council to host a writing and photographic competition for local school children.

Children are being asked to write a short essay - around 250 words - on what they think life was like in Lurgan 400 years ago or what they think life will be like 400 years from now.

If writing doesn't take your fancy then you can submit a photograph that you feel best reflects Lurgan as it is today - maybe a picture in our beautiful park or a snap of one of our landmark buildings.

The best articles and pictures will be printed in the Lurgan Mail and there will be prizes for the top essays and pictures in each age group.

The age groups are eight to 11 years-old and 12 to 16.

Lurgan has a rich history and a bright future so there should be no shortage of inspiration around the town.

The closing date for entries is Friday, May 21, at 12noon. Essay entries can be handwritten (legibly please) or typed and should be around 250 words long. Please include your name, age, address and a parent/guardian's daytime contact number.

Photo entries can be as prints or jpeg files on CD. Again this should be accompanied by your name, age, address and a parent/guardian's daytime contact number.

All entries should be submitted to Writing Competition, Lurgan Mail, 4 High Street, Lurgan or you can e-mail them to [email protected]
