Cloughmills History Project launch

This is a cross community project between the Community Action Team and the Cloughmills Cultural and Historical Society and will give all sections and generations in the community the opportunity to contribute to the first ever history of its kind for the area.

The aim of this project is to bring the community together to share and explore the history and heritage of the village, its industry, agriculture, social and cultural traditions.

Over the next year there will be a series of workshops, seminars, study visits and a schools project together with original research on the built heritage and the collection of people’s reminiscences of life in the village.

This project will be launched at Cloughmills Primary School on Tuesday 15th January at 7.30pm.

All residents of Cloughmills and the surrounding area are invited to come along and find out how they can join in the activities and how they can feed their own story into the historical timeline of the village.

It will be an evening of music and reminiscing to be enjoyed over a cup of tea while historian Dr Bob Curran recounts some former times and folklore of Cloughmills village. Everyone is welcome!

Cloughmills has grown rapidly over the last twenty years and is now the largest village in the Ballymoney Council area.

The project will lead to a book publication to ensure that its heritage is documented and preserved and a heritage trail of the local area can be developed.

The project is being funded by the International Fund for Ireland and will be managed by the Rural Development Council under their ‘Integrating Communities’ Programme.
