The young mother, who has a little girl aged five, was taking her youngest boy, aged 15 months old for his nap, when she heard a loud bang, said a family friend.

He described how the girl grabbed her two children and rushed out of the house in Drumbeg, Craigavon

And now that same community has rallied round, bringing clothes, toys and supplies to the family.

A fundraiser has surpassed £3,000 also but it is going to take a long time for the young family to rebuild their lives.

The Ardowen Community Centre has opened so that people who wish to drop off furniture, bedding, clothes, toys or other supplies.

A person close to the family said: “Everyone has been so good.”

Another friend said: “They are so lucky to be alive. What might have happened doesn’t bear thinking about.”

Explaining what happened a friend said; “She was just putting the child down and then boom whole house was in flames.

He wasn’t sure what started the fire but it was not suspicious and thought to have been a candle which knocked over.

“They have lost everything. The whole house has been destroyed along with the contents. Not all of it has been destroyed by fire, which was mostly in the upstairs, but the water damage destroyed the rest.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family so they can buy clothes for their children and contents for any new house.

“This has been a traumatic experience which could have ended a lot of worse.

“I hope we all as a community can pull together to help this family in their time of need.”
