Consultation to gauge demand for play area in Tonagh

Although a recent audit didn’t identify Tonagh as a gap area in terms of play provision, members of the Leisure and Community Development Committee agreed that a localised survey regarding the possible provision of a play area should be carried out.

Consultees will include local householders and community group representatives.

The committee also agreed that officers should liaise with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive with regard to acquiring the land needed for a play area free of charge.

Members also approved a recommendation that officers liaise with Alpha with regard to securing potential funding for the project.

The committee’s decisions were ratified by full council on October 25.

Alderman Paul Porter, who was presented with a petition calling for the development of a play area in Tonagh when he was chair of the Leisure Committee, said the purpose of the consultation process is to gauge demand for a park and the views of local people and relevant partner agencies.

“The consultation will be taking place over the next few months and I would encourage residents to take the opportunity to make their voices heard,” he commented.
