Local police recently launched a new phase of Operation Torus - an initiative involving the police and local communities working in partnership to secure more drug seizures and arrests.

While welcoming the PSNI’s efforts, Mr McDowell said more must be done to tackle the scourge of illegal drugs.

The PUP man, who is seeking a meeting with senior police officers to discuss the need for tougher action against drug dealers, said: “These people are putting their pockets before the lives of our children and they don’t care about the families whose lives they destroy. It’s also vitally important that people come forward and report all information to the police. There are those out there who know who these people are and their information might just save a young person’s life. These people run around our community with little regard for anyone only themselves and the sooner our streets are free of these parasites the better.”
