Ballykelly man is refused bail by Judge

A man from Ballykelly, who allegedly threw an iPad at a woman, was remanded in custody when he appeared before Limavady Magistrates Court.

William Kelly (36), with an address at Main Street, Ballykelly, appeared at Limavady Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last, at which time he was refused bail by the District judge, Liam McNally.

The court was told that Kelly was arrested during the early hours of Tuesday, April 21 and was subsequently charged with unlawfully assaulting a female.

A PSNI officer told the court that the injured party contacted police at 4.20am and she claimed that the defendant assaulted her in the bedroom.

Outlining the case against Kelly, the prosecution said the woman claimed Kelly had thrown an iPad at her, which had hit her on the back of the head. She was in bed at the time.

Kelly claimed it had been accidental.

A police officer told the court bail was opposed, as police feared Kelly would commit further offences. The officer also alleged that the case before the court had been committed while Kelly was on bail.

In addition, the officer said a suitable bail address had not been provided by the defendant.

District Judge Liam McNally refused an application for bail.

The District Judge remanded Kelly in custody to appear via video link before the court again on May 14.
